Stumbled across SpeakeasyDC, an autobiographical open mic storytelling series that shares some of the same community building goals as our Give & Take program - though it seems they have a slightly more narrow definition of what storytelling is, what it can look like, and how participatory it can be. Still, looks like a great series! I love that they see their work “training” storytellers as an important part of building leadership capacity in communities!

From Speakeasy DC:

Through the art of autobiographical story performance, SpeakeasyDC gives voice to the authentic experience of ordinary people, builds community, and promotes understanding. We have a three-part mission: to produce high quality storytelling performances; provide ongoing training and performance opportunities to the public; and preserve the oral tradition in a way that speaks to and enriches contemporary life.
